California Or Bust

Orientation

Today I spent 6.5 hours sitting through the Macy's orientation. It would have been about 5 hours if the guy from New York would have just shut up. The highlight of the day was getting to watch the Fish video for the 3rd time.

Oh yeah we moved into a one bedroom apartment last Friday and I spent the weekend fixing it up while my brother worked. For now he's in the bedroom and I am in the living room because that's where the air conditioner is. I will have a picture link hopefully in my next post.

I will have very limited internet access for the next month so updates will be sporadic.

First California Lesson

I forgot to mention the other day that when we checked out an apartment the manager gave us our first piece of advice, never believe anyone in California. I hope that wasn't a sign of things to come.

Yesterday we were eating lunch in Popeye's when my brother realized that someone was interviewing what looked like an up and coming hip hop band. We couldn't hear what the name of the band was. I couldn't see her writing anything down so I hope she has a great memory.

We haven't heard anything about the apartment which is making us nervous because we can't afford to stay in this hotel very much longer.

The other frustration is that we have all this time to go site seeing but we can't afford to do anything.

We Made It

Two more states and a stop in old town Albequerque and the Grand Canyon before we arrived in LA yesterday. We camped in Flagstaff, AZ and are currently staying at a Super 8 motel. We looked at 3 apartments today and put an application in on 1 of them. I somehow got a job at Macy's right after I applied for it. I will start Moday in the Intimate Apparel department.

My nerves are getting the better of me right now and things just seem to be going to well it is making me nervous.

Half way there

After a late start yesterday we finally got on the road. We stopped in St. Louis to have dinner with a friend of my brother. We stayed the night in Lebanon, MO. Today we got past the half way point. I am actually writing this in a hotel in Tucumcari, NM. We have driven through 4 states and unfortunately I don't know how many miles. We drove past the Oklahoma capital building but have not done any site seeing. I freaked out a little bit when we drove through a 10 minute hail storm in Texas, luckily my brother was driving at the time not me. I never realized out flat Texas is.

30-60-90

The party is over and we are back from Florida. It was hot but we didn't let that stop us (well it almost stopped me). After meeting with my relatives, the reason we were down there, we visited a wildlife sanctuary, ate at a strange seafood restaurant, went to the Kennedy Space Center, spent a day at Disney, went to a dueling piano bar, and ended the week at Sea World. I will admit Sea World was actually the highlight of the week, since I paid $5 to feed a dolphin (I think I surprised everyone when I held the dead fish). The fireworks show was fun at both Disney and Sea World. I was actually disappointed in Downtown Disney. I was ready for crowded but not the unhappy cast members and the lack of souvenirs of my favorites Goofy and Eeyore.

Now we are getting ready for the cross country road trip. We will probably follow the Route 66 trip and camp a couple times along the way. My brother has a part-time job lined up and I have sent out about a dozen resumes, but the real job hunt will begin the minute we step in LA. The first week we will be spending in the cheapest motel we can find (probably the Bates motel).

Let the adventure begin.
