Happy Thought 1

I have been feeling lonely and homesick lately and somewhat depressed so I thought I would start trying to find things around me that can put a smile on my face. Peter Pan taught me that happy thoughts can make me fly so why not start my flying lessons.

I volunteer once a week at a place called New Horizons. This place provides educational, life and work assistance for adults with mental and physical disabilities. I do not work with the clients directly but I help in the fundraising department. Today as I was walking through the campus I noticed something, everyone there was smiling. Nothing such as color, race, religion, age or disability mattered to them. A few of the clients actually were coupled off which was really nice because most of the couples were interracial. Why can they put differences aside but the "normal" population has to build walls based on their differences?

On Hiatus

As you may or may not have noticed I haven't posted in 2 months. Unfortunately I have been on somewhat of a hiatus. I have mostly just been working to save money, which doesn't seem to be working. I tried applying at 2 other retailers for some extra holiday work but neither (insert funny porn store name here). But truthfully Barnes and Noble nor Suncoast wanted to hire me, maybe I was asking for too much money. So what I have decided is that I am just going to start again looking for my dream job in January. Over the next month I am going to redo my resume and put together a resume reel.

That's about it for now heading off to work.

Fall Thoughts

This time of year makes me especially homesick. I miss the colors of fall and all the activity of autumn in Illinois. Sokol is in full swing with track and field and volleyball. The cheerleaders and the gymnasts are starting their competitive seasons. All of the farmers' markets are loaded with pumpkins. The weather is my favorite, sweatshirt and sweatpants weather.

I can't believe I miss rain. Everything is always brighter after the rain. Weather here seems so dull.

After that very busy week of volunteering and tv tapings this week was just work and apartment hunting.

Just another day 3

You know you're in Hollywood when you walk into a Taco Bell and there are pictures of actors hanging on the walls. The funny part is the one I went to had mostly pictures of kid actors who I have never seen in anything and everyone knows I only watch movies that are meant to attract kids.

Today I spent 6 hours at a wine tasting. Most of that was spent wiping out glasses but in exchange for that I got to taste all of the wines for free. But again since everyone knows I don't really drink I think I only tried 5 wines (one of which was really a cocktail that tastes like chai tea which I actually enjoyed).

I have postponed the apartment search long enough and will be checking out my first apartment by myself on Tuesday. It's one I know we can't afford but it looks really cool. I signed up with a work placement service this week that I hope will help me get in the business but the funny thing is I may actually want to concentrate on becoming an extra and edit on the side.

She has to go

I love gymnastics, everyone knows that, but since watching Celebrity Duets I want to just kick Carly Patterson out of there. While I am at it who's idea was it to make Little Richard a judge, you can't understand a word he says. I actually have to say I am rooting for either Hal Sparks or Jai Rodriguez. By the way my prediction is that Michael will win Project Runway 3.

The apartment search hasn't started yet, I am a little stressed about it and just can't get motivated to start looking yet.

I had more to write but I can't think of any of it right now.

Live long and prosper.

Funny Man

I actually had a good day today. I volunteered at the Actors and Others Celebrity Roast for Dick Van Dyke. I helped set up the gift bags, was door security so no one got in while they were finishing the set up and doing sound check and I helped with the silent auction. While I was on door duty I got JoAnne Worley upset with me because I didn't open the door for her. I told Mike Farrell where the restrooms were and I helped Ted Lange get the 2 items he won in the silent auction. I will now list the other celebrities that I saw but did not speak to

Dick Van Dyke
Tim Conway
Mitzi Gaynor
Leonard Maltin
Charlotte Rae
Elayne Boosler
Dick Martin
Loretta Swit
Bryan Cranston
Jamie Farr
and a few others that I didn't recognize

I ended up sneaking off with a centerpiece and box of items that are cat related.

A Day at the Zoo

We left Illinois two months ago I can't believe how the time flies. We had to pick the hottest summer in the past 200 years to come out here. I actually had the weekend off and spent most of it cleaning the apartment. I did learn something new this week: the difference between tap dancing and clogging is that in clogging there are double taps on the shoes and the movement is more into the ground versus a more hopping motion in tap dancing.

Well the main portion of this blog is going to be dedicated to the thought that's been haunting me all week. I believe all managers would learn a lot about how to handle their employees by working at a zoo for a year. I will now post a few of the reasons I came up with, please feel free to add any reasons you can think of.

Positive reinforcement - reward the right behavior not the wrong.

If your animal is full of shit one day you're going to step in it so learn to avoid it.

Animals are happiest when their bellies are full so keep snacks handy.

Never turn your back on your animals because they might just bite you in the ass.
